Spay/Neuter. Prevent Litters. Save Lives.

Spay 2 Save is dedicated to reducing the pet-overpopulation problem in Eastern North Carolina by providing high-quality high-volume low-cost spay and neuter services to our coastal communities.

We began operations in 2012 as a way to fulfill the Spay/Neuter mission of Encore Pets, a Carteret County based non-profit animal welfare organization. With the help of the ASPCA National Spay/Neuter Mentorship Project and overwhelming support from the community, Encore Pets launched the Spay 2 Save Mobile Clinic: a new custom-built, state-of-the-art, fully-equipped 33- foot mobile surgery clinic. By spaying/neutering 25 or more cats and dogs a day, four to five days a week, Spay 2 Save can sterilize approximately 5,400 - 8,700 animals each year.  We do not require income verification in order to use our services.

Pre-Surgery Instruction

Please note:  We recommend that you have your dog vaccinated for Distemper-Parvo & Bordetella & your cat for Distemper at least two weeks prior to your scheduled appointment so that he or she will be better protected from these diseases.

Before your pet has surgery, please follow these instructions carefully:
  • Adult dogs/cats:  NO FOOD OR TREATS after midnight the night before the surgery.
  • Puppies/kittens [and dogs <10lbs]:  can be given a small meal before 6 am the morning of surgery.
  • All pets should *always* have access to water.
  • If your pet shows any signs of illness, please call and re-schedule surgery.
  • Please be on time for check-in at 8:30 am.
  • Please leave your pet in the car while you register.
  • Please keep your dog on a leash/ cat in a labeled carrier [one cat per carrier]. Feral (wild) cats must be in a humane trap, not a carrier.
  • Label your pet carrier with your name and your pet’s name with tape or marker.
  • Please bring written proof of all current vaccinations with you to check-in. Rabies tags are not adequate proof.
  • Payment must be made at check-in [CASH only].
  • We will notify you of the pick-up time at check-in. All pets must be picked up the same day as surgery.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

FAQ's

Q:What is spaying and neutering?

Spaying and neutering, the most common surgical procedures performed on animals, stop animals from being able to reproduce.

Q:When should my pet be spayed or neutered?

As early as possible! Cats and dogs can be spayed or neutered when they weigh at least two pounds—typically at eight weeks of age.  It’s best to spay your female pets BEFORE their first heat.  We recommend pets be spayed or neutered between 3-4 months of age.
