Spay 2 Save is dedicated to reducing the pet-overpopulation problem in Eastern North Carolina by providing high-quality high-volume low-cost spay and neuter services to our coastal communities.

We began operations in 2012 as a way to fulfill the Spay/Neuter mission of Encore Pets, a Carteret County based non-profit animal welfare organization. With the help of the ASPCA National Spay/Neuter Mentorship Project and overwhelming support from the community, Encore Pets launched the Spay 2 Save Mobile Clinic: a new custom-built, state-of-the-art, fully-equipped 33- foot mobile surgery clinic. By spaying/neutering 25 or more cats and dogs a day, four to five days a week, Spay 2 Save can sterilize approximately 5,400 - 8,700 animals each year.  We do not require income verification in order to use our services.

Check-In Form

Appointments are required for all animals. Please click here to request an appointment, or call (252) 622-2373 to schedule. If you already have an appointment and would like to print and fill out our check-in forms before your appointment, click here. One form required per pet having surgery.

We only accept CASH for services.  All cash payments must be made on the morning of your scheduled appointment, at the time of drop-off.

Rabies & Distemper vaccinations are included in the price of the spay/neuter. Owners of animals that are current on their Rabies vaccination must show proof of vaccination (the Rabies certificate or paperwork from the vet, not the Rabies tag).  If no proof is available, a one-year Rabies vaccine will be given to animals estimated to be 4 months or older. Optional additional services are available to our surgery patients at additional cost.  See our services and fees schedule for details.

Included with each surgery:

  • A complete physical exam
  • Dog:  DA2PP vaccination (Distemper/ Parvo)
  • Cat:  FVRCP vaccination (Feline Distemper)
  • Rabies vaccination (required by law)

Spay 2 Save is not a full-service clinic.  Vaccines and other services are only available on the day of surgery.
Note:  We accept area shelter vouchers to cover the cost of the spay/ neuter. If you have a voucher, you must let us know at the time you schedule your appointment. There may be minimal additional charges if the pet is in-heat, pregnant, or cryptorchid.

FAQ's

Q:What is spaying and neutering?

Spaying and neutering, the most common surgical procedures performed on animals, stop animals from being able to reproduce.

Q:When should my pet be spayed or neutered?

As early as possible! Cats and dogs can be spayed or neutered when they weigh at least two pounds—typically at eight weeks of age.  It’s best to spay your female pets BEFORE their first heat.  We recommend pets be spayed or neutered between 3-4 months of age.
